Time to level up your games of Tales of the Valiant and/or D&D with Kobold Press’ Tales of the Valiant: Player’s Guide 2 early next year.
As the year draws to a close, the release dates for next year firm up. And Kobold Press has a big one in store for its Tales of the Valiant, a crunchier, more customizable take on D&D 5E (that is also compatible with D&D 5E). What began life during the OGL saga as Project Black Flag is now a fully armed and operational RPG line with a new major expansion due out in February, so come take a look at (and possibly pre-order) Tales of the Valiant: Player’s Guide 2.

As you might expect from a Player’s Guide 2, this is an expansion for the core rules of Tales of the Valiant. Meaning you’ll want the core book before you grab this one – but odds are good you’re already playing it if you’ve made it this far. What can you hope to find?
Everything you’d hope for from a player expansion. Forget just one new class or a handful of subclasses. In TotV: Player’s Guide 2, you get 3 new base classes: the Theurge, the Witch, and the Vanguard. Each of those comes with its own subclasses. Plus you get new subclasses for existing TotV characters.
And that’s just the big stuff. You’ll also get nine new lineages to pick from, alongside eleven new heritages. As well as plenty of talents and backgrounds and even more stuff to make your own custom hero in either TotV or D&D 5E.
Though it says Player’s Guide 2, the new Tales of the Valiant book has a lot more to offer whole tables. Including new base building mechanics that will give your party different strongholds and NPC staff (hey the more people that get in on Bastions the better), and different rules for running organizations within the world.
There’s even a section on epic level play with rules that will take you beyond level 20. All of this sounds like a lot – but this is the book for people wanting to squeeze every last drop they can out of their Tales of the Valiant or D&D 5E games.
