There are 24 hours left (and counting down) until the BackerKit campaign for the Zelda-inspired Twilight Sword RPG closes.
What a wild ride it’s been for publishers Free League and Two Little Mice with the crowdfunding campaign for Twilight Sword. TS is a game that seems like it should have existed already – drawing on inspiration like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom as well as DragonQuest and Ni No Kuni, Twilight Sword is an RPG about heroic adventurers exploring a world in need of hope once more.
But it’s not just a Zelda-like world with the serial numbers field off. It’s an RPG with a unique engine designed to capture the feeling that those games engender. Exploration with the purpose of healing the world. Bringing hope to the hopeless. Helping random people get grilled salmon in exchange for a quarter of a heart container.
And with just a day to go on its BackerKit campaign, you can still enjoy the crowdfunding exclusives and secure your shot at this new RPG. It’s already raised almost a million dollars (currently sitting at just shy of 800K when you convert from Pound sterling to the Dollar). As we head into the last day, I expect it’ll shoot up even more. So see what stretch goals are left to unlock. They hit all the ones they had listed (or shortly will).
Twilight Sword – Last Day To Back
I mean just look at the art for this game. You can understand exactly why it’s done so well. But there’s so much that’s been unlocked. Frog heroes. Dark elves. Cooking recipes. It’s going all out and I am here for it.

The one thing that isn’t immediately obvious is the underlying system. The game mechanics are unique, developed specifically for this game, using a system called Created at Twilight (CAT). It’s d12-based, so you’ll tackle all of your problems by rolling a d12, trying to roll under one of your eight abilities. Simple, but then around that are built even more mechanics, and here’s where they really get nerdy about the inspirations.
Take the elemental system, where there’s a network of 8 elements, which all sort of Pokemon together in interesting ways. Fire beats Ice, but Ice beats Wind, while Thunder beats Water and Darkness beats Light. You know, the good JRPG type mechanics. You can take a look at a preview of the game right here.
Once this goes away, you’ll miss out on BackerKit exclusives like the custom heart gems, the blank Champion Journal full of character sheets, and the gorgeous custom dice they’ve made for this campaign.
So if you’re interested at all, now’s the time to jump in.
See you in Radia!
