Games Workshop has a habit of launching new Warzones and then leaving them hanging. Here’s a few we need to resolve.
Warhammer 40,000 is a setting that is full of warzones and campaigns. There’s so many that they all sort of blur together sometimes. That said, there’s a few that come to mind that I’d really like for Games Workshop to tie-up — at least in terms of lore. Let’s get into them.
Nachmund Gauntlet
This one is bothering me. Yes we got the Crusade book for 40k and that’s great for narrative play. However, this one kind of left on an open note in the lore. The Nachmund Gauntlet is still one of the most stable routes through the Cicatrix Maledictum. We did have a bunch of things happening around this battle ground. We even got Haarken Worldclaimer from the original lore of this sector.
The last time we got to check in on this area was basically during the Nachmund Rift War. The northern sector was essentially cutoff and the defenders were on their own. It seemed like the Black Legion was winning. However, the Imperium was far from done with defending this route. But we haven’t really heard much lately. Plus Abaddon seems to have given the command of this offensive over to Worldclaimer as he went off to run around with Vashtorr. More on that later.
Pariah Nexus
Yet another war zone that got a Crusade book, the Pariah Nexus seems like a hot spot for battle. That’s a little ironic considering the effect the Zone of Silence has on every other race in the area. Anyhow, this is also known as the Nephilim War and was a big part of the Psychic Awakening and Indomitus Crusade events. It’s got a major Necron presence but there’s also the forces of Humanity and Chaos battling it out.
This sector is one of the strangest areas due to the blackstone Necron Pylons that make up a network. This is what causes the “stillness” to plague the area. Personally, I’ve always found this to be a very interesting bit of lore and I’ve always hoped GW would explore it even more. Which is why I want them to return to this area and maybe give us some sort of resolution.
Arks of Omen
Finally, the last campaign isn’t exactly one particular area. Instead, I want to know what the heck has happened with the Arks of Omen story! This one really highlighted Abaddon and the team-up with Vashtorr the Arkifane. If you want the full recap (and it’s a long one) you can read about the actual Campaign here. But [Spoilers] it ended with the side of Chaos getting the Key. What’s the Key for? It’s for the Lock. What does the Lock do? It’s for the Weapon. What’s the Weapon? Great question. That’s why I want to have a resolution to this story!
As far as we know all these McGuffins are just “Old Ones” tech that can do…stuff? Yeah, it’s intentionally left vague. Probably because the writers weren’t allowed to really get into all that so GW could revisit that later and fill in the blanks. But right now it sure feels like a missing adlib and bugs the crap outta me.
ANYHOW, those are the three Campaigns/War Zones I hope we get to revisit in 2026. I need some resolution, GW. C’mon! Make it happen!
Where do you hope GW takes the lore of 40k in 2026?
