A legend returns as Free League announces a release date for its upcoming Kickstarter project, Dragonbane: Trudvang – now a standalone RPG.
A huge update for the imminent launch of Dragonbane: Trudvang, the classic campaign setting for Drakar Och Demoner, or as you might know it, Dragonbane. Just as the world full of shadowed woods and fathomless mists and trolls and other creatures besides took on a life of its own, so too will Trudvang take on an RPG life of its own, as Free League announced today.
Not only did they confirm the official Kickstarter launch date, but they also announced Dragonbane: Trudvang would be a standalone RPG.
Dragonbane: Trudvang – Standalone and Stand Out
Free League announced Dragonbane: Trudvang late last year. And in the ensuing months, after hearing player feedback, broached the news today that its Trudvang project would not require the original Dragonbane Core Set or Core Rulebook to play. Instead, the project will be a “standalone RPG.”
Meaning you won’t need to already have the Dragonbane set to start playing this version, though, of course, the RPG will be fully compatible with Dragonbane. It’s just that DB: Trudvang will have a complete set of core rules as part of the upcoming campaign, as well as a world book, bestiary, and four-party campaign.
And the game itself will be rewritten to be adapted to the newest version of Dragonbane. Spearheading the project is Magnus Seter, whose work you might know from Cyberpunk 2020, Mutant Chronicles, the Forbidden Lands, Dragonbane—and even work on Trudvang in the early days. All of which adds up to a promising return for Dragonbane: Trudvang.

Dragonbane: Trudvang, produced by Free League under license from CMON, is coming to Kickstarter in early 2026. The campaign will offer no less than four masterfully illustrated hardback volumes in Swedish and in English.”

The campaign itself will see four books through to publishing. You’ll get the World Book, a deep dive into Trudvang’s history, peoples, and regions. A book of Core Rules that serves as the player’s guide, with new Trudvang specific professions, heroic abilities, and magic. Jorgi’s Bestiary is a manual full of Trudvang monsters, including the braskelwurm, draugr, hrimtursir, and yggdras, all adapted for Dragonbane‘s rules. And The Black Sun—a four-part epic campaign that captures Trudvang’s spirit.
All of this, coming to Kickstarter on February 17th, 2026. So get ready.
