Add a dozen new character classes to your games of D&D or Level Up with a new Complete Class Compendium now on BackerKit.

A new BackerKit project wants to add a dozen new classes to your fantasy RPGs, with The Complete Class Compendium, a new sourcebook for both D&D 5.5E and Level Up, Advanced 5th Edition. With new concepts like the Gemini or the Bloodweaver, this book opens up new possibilities for two different systems.

The Complete Class Compendium – 12 New Classes & More

One of the downsides to D&D being the world’s oldest RPG is that everyone has played a Fighter, a Wizard, a Cleric, etc. There’s no question that they continue to have lasting appeal, but sometimes you want a break from the routine. Especially if you’ve played across multiple editions. One of the things that kept 4E going was the batch of new classes. Even a new subclass in 5E is something to be excited about, but it is rare indeed to see a new class.

Even in other 3rd-party supplements, like Grim Hollow, you only get a single new class – at least at first. But here we have 12 all-new classes, each complete with all the mechanics needed to play it.

And some of these new classes take quite a bit. Take the Gemini, which is all about becoming a “duality” where you embrace the tension of different desires and eventually become capable of creating magical duplicates of yourself that embody different ideals. Or the Bloodweaver, a classic blood magic guy, but who has a system of sanguinary powers that require a system of blood points. I mean they’re not technically called blood points, but they’re blood points.

“After long enough clerics, fighters, rogues, and wizards become less like platforms to jump off of and more like highways with the same destinations. The Complete Class Compendium changes that, introducing a dozen new character classes to Level Up: Advanced Fifth Edition and D&D 2024 that expand what it means to be an adventurer!”

The point is, there’s a good but of mechanical innovation here. You can see a mix of different inspirations among the classes. Some are new takes on familiar archetypes, while others lead with a cool new mechanic and bring in delicious flavor as you read more about them.

There’s a lot to dig into, but you can check out the BackerKit at the link below. And click here for a preview of the new Gemini class to see what I mean about mechanical complexity wrapped up in fun narrative.
