Prince Yriel is back in Warhammer 40,000 and he’s bringing the Aeldari Corsairs with him to the tabletop. It’s about time!
In case you missed the news, Prince Yriel is getting a new miniature and he’s got some extra pirate backup this time around.
Aeldari Eldritch Raiders
To kick things off, yes, there’s a new Battleforce on the way. This one is loaded with all of the new units that are being added to the Aeldari.
While we already got a look at the miniatures, I wanted to talk about why it’s about time we’re finally getting them in the game.
Starting off, Prince Yriel has a new plastic miniature coming. Personally, I’ve always like the Yriel miniatures in general. I also like his lore surrounding his battles with the Tyranids. Nowadays, he’s basically a Pirate Prince messing with whatever unfortunate ships are caught in his sights. Sure, he pops in the help his Aeldari kin out periodically. But for the most part, he’s doing his own thing.
Kharseth is a new type of psyker for the Aeldari. They are a Void Dreamer, also known as an Aethyrmancer. Based on the description, they are eerily close to an Astropath from the Imperium…but with an Aeldari twist. Kharseth basically helps Prince Yriel naviagate the Warp and also help drop the fleet precisely where it needs to be for maximum effect.
While the Aeldari are better known for using the webway to travel, having a new type of character that can “feel the shifting eddies of the Warp” is neat. It’s a new development and makes sense for a “pirate” fleet of Aeldari.
New Void Corsairs
Here’s where we really get to the meat and potatoes of these Corsair Raiders led by Yriel. The new Skyreavers are a nice addition and it’s also nice to see the previously released Corsair Voidscarred folded into this mix.
What a lot of folks are excited about is the mixing of the Aeldari Craftworlds and Drukhari aesthetics here. You can see the influence of both sides of the Aeldari in the Corsairs. This is something we haven’t really seen from GW since the Ynnari. And I think that’s something that’s really been missing.
Not Just Ynnari 2.0
And yes, the Voidscarred have been out for a while. But they also kind of felt like an orphaned unit. Sure, I guess you could put them in an Aeldari army and depending on the Detachment you could kind of get some value out of them. However, this release is what I’m talking about in terms of adding a new facet to the Aeldari with the Corsairs. Built around Yriel and the Corsair units, this could be a way for GW to continue the same ideas they tried to do with the Ynnari.
It’s that blending of Aeldari and Drukhari that I’m really more excited about. These Corsairs don’t just cherry pick “this Aspect Warrior” with “those Wyches” and throw them together. That’s kind of what the Ynnari did. Instead, GW is actually blending them together and making new stuff. The Starfang is a blend of the Vyper but packing Drikhari weapons. And while I think the rear-facing weapons are a little silly (seriously, why not just make a fully 360° turret) it’s the concept that I like.

Personally, I hope GW does more with this army. I really hope we don’t end up with another abandoned Aeldari subfaction that eventually gets rolled into the main codex. I’m looking at you Harlequins and Ynnari. Both of those could have been full armies. Harlequins were an independent army at one point! Let’s hope the Corsairs don’t end up in the same boat.
We used to have our own codex once…
I hope the Void Corsairs get their own proper army one day. What do you think?
