If you’re looking for some inspiration for your next terrain, display, or tabletop project check out these Necromunda creations.

Terrain has always had a special spot in my hobby heart. To me, it can really make or break the immersion of the game. It’s kind of like the third player on the board (in a 1v1 game at least). I’m not saying you can’t have a great game with a stack of books, shoeboxes, and empty soda cans. I’ve done that before and it’s fun. But having really awesome looking terrain to play on really just makes the games that much better.

Furthermore, Necromunda in particular really works better when you’ve got these cool, thematic places to fight over. Intricate terrain makes the board feel more real and “alive” in a way. It’s fun to get eye level and see all the nooks and crannies your miniatures are moving through.

That said, there’s something about this setting that the Warhammer team seems to really like to play around with. This isn’t the first time they’ve showcased some awesome terrain. There’s even been entire tutorials on how modular the Necromunda kits are designed. Today, their team has assembled impressive Marketplace themed areas. I don’t want to steal their thunder so please go check out their full article. So I’m just going to show off my favorite three. (I really wanted to just show off all of them…but I limited it to just three.)

Warhammer Team’s Necromunda Marketplaces

This one was from Connor from the Warhammer Team. It’s an entire fort/marketplace that’s on top of a few of the Zone Mortalis: Floor Tiles. It’s kit-bashed from the Gang Stronghold, the walls and tiles, and the Necromunda Barricades sets. Obviously, there’s also a bunch of gangers and a vehicle in there, too. I’m pretty sure there’s even some bits from an assortment of other kits but spotting them all is tricky.

Regardless this is a really impressive terrain project. You can tell a lot of time went into this one (as well as some weathering powders). It would be a blast to get to play on this set of terrain and my brain is already creating the story of this gang trying to hold off a raid in my head. Connor, AWESOME work!

This next one was created by Blake S. I wanted to show off this one because it’s doing something with the smaller scatter terrain that the other ones didn’t.  This marketplace went “wide” with the terrain and really shows that it’s the clutter and little things that make the space feel lived in. Looking at this picture, I can’t help but think about how busy this Marketplace gets. Ya know, when it’s not hosting a fire fight between two (or more) gangs.

I also really love the modular garage shop. The inclusion of the Living Saint statue is also a really nice touch. Blake S, you knocked this one out of the park!

For this last one, I was really torn on what to include as the final set. Honestly, the rest of the terrain is all amazing and getting to play on any of these submissions would be peak Necromunda for me. That said, I’m choosing this last one because it shows off a set that really isn’t limited to Necromunda. This could show up on any Grimdark battlefield and look right at home.

This one is from Warhammer Team member Adam and I really like how it’s all built on bases. I’m not sure if those are cardboard or MDF or some other material, but terrain like this is something I’m very used to playing on. I’ve worked on a quite a few terrain projects and having your terrain on these “footprints” really helps with game play. Again, this set fits perfectly as a Necromunda Marketplace but you could toss them (gently) on any other tabletop for 40k and you’ve got great terrain.

Hopefully, these sets are making your hobby brain itch with new terrain ideas. Personally, I know I always get anxious about building terrain because I think that somehow “I’m doing it wrong.” But the reality is that the only wrong way to assemble this stuff is to leave it on the sprue collecting dust. So hopefully you’re just as inspired as I am to bust out those kits, and just start building. Playing around with the configurations is part of the fun of the hobby! It’s modular for a reason so get crazy with it and have some fun!

Terrain for the next hobby night? That sounds like a plan to me!
