Moondragon and Quasar are coming to Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Now we’re getting a closer look at their stats and abilities on the tabletop!

Get ready for even more of the Cosmic Side of Marvel to enter the game with the arrival of Moondragon and Quasar. They are coming in a character pack with Adam Warlock who we’ve already covered. I’m looking forward to adding both of these characters to the roster of Guardians of the Galaxy. But will they find room in a crowded list? I think they might have some potential there for sure! Good thing AMG showed off their cards so we can dive deeper.

Moondragon

First up we have Moondragon! She’s a psychic martial artists and if you’re wondering how all this started you can blame Thanos. Why? “Because Comics!” I won’t go into her tragic backstory but it’s quite a read. Anyhow, we’re here for the rules so let’s go over them.

Defensive stat-wise she’s a 3/3/4 with a stamina pool of 6/6. She’s also size 2 with a medium move at the cost of a Threat 3 character. She’s also got flight and is on a 50mm base! So she’s actually (relatively) fast and can really get around the board. And speaking of getting around the board, Moondragon is coming with one of my favorite abilities: Charge. This 2 cost power does require and Action, but it’s a move followed by an attack. Nothin’ wrong with that!

Speaking of attacks, Moondragon has her basic gainer of Psionic Barrage. It will generate 1 power regardless of if you do damage or not. It’s a decent range 3 attack for 4 dice. It’s also got Rapid Fire on a wild result. That will let you follow-up with a second Psionic Barrage. If all goes well, this attack can generate her 2 power. It’s also a Mystic attack which is a nice addition for the Guardians of the Galaxy in general.

Her big spender attack cost 3 power. Dragon of the Moon is only range 2 but it’s a 7 die swing! Additionally, you get to add skulls from the defender’s roll into this attack’s total successes. If you get a wild you also cause Hex to the defender, too.

Moondragon’s other abilities include Distracting Illusions for 1. This ability can force a re-roll on an attacker’s dice if they are within range 3. She also has Shield Mind for 2 which helps allies in range 4 out by stopping and forced Advance, Place, or Push from an enemy character’s Mystic attack or enemy superpowers. I think it’s going to be one of those “nice to haves” when it comes into play. And her final power is Shao-Lom Martial Artist. When she is defending against an attack within range 2 she gets to add Blanks to her defense roll! Oh and she’s also a Gem Bearer for the Mind Gem, too.

Overall, I think she’s bringing some nice utility to the Guardians of the Galaxy roster. Moondragon also has those Mystic attacks which could be pretty useful to slot in for that Affiliation. Still, I could see splashing her in other lists if you need some extra displacement protection. She’s also a nice Threat 3 so she’s not super pricy to add.

Quasar

Phyla-Vell’s history is pretty complicated. She’s not the first (or only) Quasar that’s been in the comics. But this incarnation is the version that’s rocking the Quantum Bands and wielding her Quantum Sword. I like this version and I’m looking forward to bringing her to the tabletop! So let’s see what she can do.

Starting off with Quasar’s defensive stats she’s got a beefy 3/4/4 with 7/6 stamina. She’s also size 2 and moves medium with a 50mm base! Phyla-Vell is a Threat 4 character for a reason. So let’s talk attacks.

Her builder is  Quantum Sword which is a range 2 energy attack for 5 dice. On a wild it has Pierce which can really help punch through defenses. Her big spender costs 5 power and is Nega-Quantum Blast Wave! It’s a Beam 3 for 8 dice and is an energy attack. Wilds will cause Incinerate and Pierce as well. Yikes! Oh and she’s also rocking Charge for 2 well. I don’t think you’re going to be hiding from this lady. Especially because she’s got Flight to get around, too.

Quasar wouldn’t be Quasar without Quantum Bands. This is a 2 cost superpower that does some funky stuff. Basically is a 4 dice roll that causes the target to lose power on crits, wilds, and hits. If they don’t have power to lose, they instead take damage. And that damage doesn’t generate power. It’s basically like a power sap attack. Another one of her abilities is Force Field for 2. This one allows Quasar to add 2 dice on defense when it’s a physical or energy based attack. Finally, Phyla-Vell has Kre-Titan Hybrid Physiology. This 1 cost power allows her to heal for 1 damage or remove 1 special condition after an enemy attacks.  This is great for stopping those pesky conditions from getting you after defending. She’s also immune to Poison and stun.

Overall, I think Quasar is going to be pretty tanky. I am already thinking of who to run her with in my Guardians of the Galaxy list. Thematically, I think she’s a cool character. This also really makes me want Annihilus in the game…c’mon Annhilation Wave Ultimate Encounter!

Team Tactic Cards

Last but not least I wanted to run through the Team Tactic Cards. This set already includes the Mind Gem, but there’s two more to go over.

Moondragon and Drax can tap into this Tactic Card. It costs 4 power but it allows Drax to move or place his Vengeance token on an enemy and then make a medium Advance towards them. It also allows Moondragon to then use the Psionic Barrage attack on the same character. Any skull in the defense roll also count as successes for her, too. It’s pricy but it could also make for a nice swing for them both.

Power Couple is the final card here. It costs both Moondragon and Quasar to spend 1 each. However, while they are within range 2 of each other, neither of them can be Advanced, Thrown, or Placed. It also reduces the cost of active and reactive superpowers by 1 to a minimum of 1. Oh, and technically this applies to Heather Douglas and Phyla-Vell which means in the future if there are different versions of these characters they will be able to still use this card.

These characters are coming in February! Their character pack is currently up for pre-order from Asmodee right now.
