Goodman Games and Dungeon Crawl Classics get a lot more cyber and a little more punk with the new Netcrawl RPG.

Netcrawl RPG is cyberpunk RPG that uses either the Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG system or the good ol’ d20 system we all know and love. Why DCC, you might be wondering? Well, you can find the new cyberpunk “dungeon crawler” on Goodman Games’ webstore. And because of DCC’s “flexible world” of swords and sorcery with occasional laser blasts, you can run this as its own campaign or as a “cyber sidecar” (with several expansions) to your current game.

Netcrawl RPG – Now Available At Goodman Games

What is Netcrawl RPG exactly? As the name might suggest, it’s a game about doing a dungeon crawl in cyberspace. That’s right! This is a system for doing adventures inside a computer. Reboot style. Or Wreck-it-Ralph style, or maybe Tron style, depending on which CGI media that takes place inside of a computer left the biggest impression.

The whole premise is that this is what happens when you start hacking into the system. Only instead of just the decker/console cowboy/netrunner/hacker/whatever other archetype you have for the person who jacks in to whatever mainframe, the whole party ventures forth to defeat ICE and unlock the objectives at the heart of the computer.

The novel idea of “Hey what if the whole party goes with the hacker on the dungeon crawl?” is actually a great approach to these things. It means you can take your whole party into the virtual world, where seconds creep by in meatspace while your party does computer stuff. Together. And it’s fun for the whole family.

“A gray light surrounds you, entering your body from all direction. For a moment you feel detached from all realities, hanging as a recently cut marionette. In a flash you materialize into your digital form. The brightest dot in the distance beckons.”

It’s certainly one way to solve the “what does the rest of the party do while the hacker is trying to set up backdoors before we raid the corporate arcology” problem that a lot of cyberpunk games can run into. And as someone who likes dungeon crawls in general, I like this approach.

Especially since there are a ton of Netcrawl supplements accompanying the core rulebook, available on the Goodman Games webstore. So, if you want to tackle the information superhighway and the dungeons just off the nearest digital exit therefrom, check out the Netcrawl RPG at the link below!
