Chaosium has a new campaign expansion for Pendragon, designed for sandbox play: The Sauvage King. Check it out!

There’s a new campaign expansion out for Pendragon, the RPG of Arthurian knights and adventures bound to your virtues and vices. It gathers together a number of different rules and playstyles under the guise of the titular Forest Sauvage – a wild realm of fairy beasts, witches, enchanters, and more that is different every time your knights enter its depths. Practically, this means a sandbox-style play with roguelike vibes that can enhance an ongoing campaign, work as a oneshot, or be its own thing altogether. Let’s check it out.

Pendragon: The Sauvage King – Available Now

This book introduces a new setting, The Forest Sauvage, as well as a few different existing adventures that you can slot right into your ongoing campaign. You get two pre-written adventures, The Adventure of Black Annis and The Adventure of White Horse Vale, both of which introduce you to the concept of the Forest Sauvage.

While the Forest itself is an ever-changing wild realm. Which, in practice, means having a whole bunch of different random tables you can use to keep generating the Forest as the players descend deeper and deeper into it. It’s a cool system, and a fun idea that can really encourage a different style of campaign.

“In the heart of Logres, an enchanted wood festers and grows. It is the realm of Madog, King of the Forest Sauvage, and it holds many great perils…and strange wonders. Many who venture beneath its nighted boughs are never heard from again. How will you fare?

Pendragon: The Sauvage King is a campaign expansion for Pendragon, offering a wellspring of adventures to play and settings to explore as part of an ongoing campaign.”

As for the forest itself, well, here’s a look at some of the various tables you can roll on. You roll to generate what you’re encountering. And of course, you’re free to interpret it how you like. But this gives an ever-shifting window into the Arthurian world that is otherwise, well-accounted for.

You can order this now from Chaosium at the link below. You’ll find both hardcover and digital editions available today!
