If you’ve never tried it, Mutants & Masterminds is one of the best superhero RPGs out there, with rules to help you do everything from street-level heroes to cosmic guardians who punch dimensional imps for breakfast. And now, a new edition (the first new one in about 15 years) is in the works, gearing up to give you a whole new suite of superhero adventures, right on your tabletop!
Mutants & Masterminds 4E – Kickstarting Now
M&M blends power levels really well. It’s character frameworks have a surprising amount of depth to them. Especially since it’s all d20 based. And in the 4th Edition, the game looks to hang onto that, while smoothing out some of the rough edges.
One of the hearts of the system is the All With One Die idea, where all you need is a 20-sided die to handle everything from attacks to damage resistance and more. The new edition offers streamlined hero creation for those who want to quickly create characters, but the iconic Power Points system is still present (and honestly, after you make your first character with an archetype, that’s the one I’d go with).
Especially since the super-powers have been overhauled. The whole system has been “modified, upgraded, playtested, and refined.” Meaning you can use ready-made powers, find rules for making your own, and everything in between.
