WotC announced three titles today a Ravenloft book and two books featuring magic and the Red Wizards of Thay; Arcana Unleashed.

By now WotC has unveiled its plans for 2026, at least most of them. At GAMA, WotC announced a “seasonal” format for D&D, with three seasons. Each centers around an “anchor product” (which is a corporate way of saying big D&D splatbook) and accessories that are, at minimum, loosely connected to the books in question. For instance, April kicks off the Season of Horror, which ends in June with the release of Ravenloft: The Horrors Within.

After that is the Season of Magic, which is “anchored” by two books. These will fall under the umbrella title of Arcana Unleashed. The first, Arcana Unleashed, is a player-focused book. While the second, Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall, is a campaign/adventure module that features the Red Wizards of Thay.

Arcana Unleashed and Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall Slated For September 2026

Now, while we don’t know what’s going to be in the Ravenloft book – it might be where we see some of the psionic stuff we’ve seen (I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s for a Dark Sun release maybe next year, though). We have a much better idea of what we’ll see in the Arcana Unleashed sourcebooks.

Arcana Unleashed, the arcane magic splatbook, is probably where we’ll see the Arcane and Mystic subclasses that WotC had previously shown off in Unearthed Arcana. This includes things like the revamped Hexblade Warlock and Arcane Archer, the Tattooed Warrior Monk, and four more Wizard school subclasses.

And that all makes sense. After all this is the big book of arcane magic. It’s going to be packed full of player options. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are new spells and new magic focused Feats, especially since the accompanying accessories include a bunch of D&D reference card decks. Spell decks, magic item decks, monster decks – these are all part of the Season of Magic.

And so is Arcana Unelashed: Deadfall. This follows the Red Wizards of Thay as they get into a whole new Wizard War.

I guess it’s Wizard War II (or is it Wizard War III now? hard to keep it all straight). At any rate, this is the long-awaited Red Wizards of Thay adventure. It also promises a “deep dive into the powerful magical society of Thay.”

Calling Thay a “magical society” is perhaps the nicest way I’ve seen anyone refer to the corrupt and oppressive magocracy of Thay. All the power in that land resides in the Red Wizards and if you’re not one of them, you’re a tool for their power. We’ll see if anything changes in the new Wizard War/adventure. But look for both of these books in September!

I just hope nobody casts Power Word: Scrunch!
