Dice Throne is a competitive battle game where your dice will (hopefully) help you use one of your special powers. And if not, you can keep rolling those dice. And if rerolls don’t work, there’s probably a couple of cards up your sleeve that will help you defeat your enemy.

Dice Throne Overview

Dice Throne is a fast-paced, dice-based combat game. Players select one of the game’s unique heroes. And armed with a handful of dice, use their distinct powers and attacks to take on the other players in battle to see who is the strongest, most strategic, and sometimes, the luckiest. It’s also a game with a ton of play types depending on how many other heroes you bring to the table, including 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or 2v2v2 battle scenarios.

The game has been around since 2018, and has seen a huge amount of expansion since. Including many seasons of gameplay, group expansions, as well as stand-alone characters based on popular hero archetypes, and even branded releases. You can battle it out as Santa and Krampus, or players can take on the roles of various Marvel characters.

Dice Throne is a game with virtually endless replayability. Even with the same heroes, no two matches will ever play out the same. But if you do want to shake things up, there is an ever-growing number of new heroes to add to the battle with new, all-new powers and abilities.

How To Play Dice Throne

To begin a game of Dice Throne, players will pick their hero and set out their game pieces. This will include their character’s game board, their health set to fifty, combat set to 2, and four cards, as well as their turn order card. Players each roll a dice and the highest roller takes their turn first.

Games are relatively simple and follow a turn order that includes resolving previous actions, drawing cards, making any upgrades or attacks, defense, and finally discarding cards and starting over.

On their turn, a hero will roll their dice in an attempt to get symbols and numbers that will equate to the abilities and attacks on their player board. If the dice don’t match up, players may reroll as many as their dice as they would like up to two times. This was, the two heroes will attack each other in an attempt to knock the other’s hit points down to zero and win the game.

However, being attacked may trigger a defensive move and protect the attacked hero, or even backfire on the attacker. And sometimes the dice don’t cooperate no matter how many times a player rerolls. At these times, they will need to use one of their cards to add damage, remove status effects, modify dice, or upgrade their board.

Players go back and forth, attacking and defending, until one player is defeated, and the other is declared the victor.

Either way, it’s a lot of fun. And with a huge collection of potential heroes, players can either find their favorite character and happily play in that niche forever, or constantly play new Dice Throne characters all the time.
