Steve Jackson Games announced a new tabletop RPG title in the works. In Seven-Part Pact you’ll become the ultimate wizards.
Seven-Part Pact immediately put me in mind of wizards. I think because when I hear seven-part anything, I think of the Rod of Seven Parts of D&D fame. But, Seven-Part Pact is actually a new RPG in the works from Steve Jackson Games and lead designer Jay Dragon. Fans of Possum Creek Games will know Seven-Part Pact from the previous drafts released on Possum Creek’s itch.io page. As it turns out, thinking in terms of wizards is the way to go. Because in this RPG, you’ll become the most prolific wizards the universe has ever seen.
Seven-Part Pact: A Wizard Did It Taken To Its Logical Conclusion
The announcement is still fresh off the internet. So details are forthcoming. But what we know for sure is that in this “fantastical, ornate TTRPG” you’ll play as a bunch of wizards who are bound by an ancient pact. You play as wizards who become powerful enough to control some of the fundamental pillars of creation.
But as it turns out, you have to play by the rules. And it gets awfully lonely being up at the top. So eventually you have to decide whether you’re going to keep living out your life, unchanged, or “annihilate the world as it is known.”
“Seven-Part Pact is a fantastical, ornate TTRPG for three to seven players who become the most prolific wizards the universe has ever seen. Their unfathomable power is on display as they descend upon the Faraway Sea. But their unique, arcane forces come at a price. They feel lonely and incarcerated, bound by a venerable Pact. They must each decide if they will live their lives unchanged – or annihilate the world as it is known.
The players are each in charge of one of seven books to base their characters’ backstories and roles in the Celestial Audience on as they face crucial challenges. They also share an enormous spellbook, the Grimoire, to use for their sorcery and to alter the game’s rules. The wizards place an Orrery on the table and play through the game in month-long segments. Each enchanter uses the stars and planets to control their own Domains, each a separate board game with asymmetric rules. Over months and then years, they discover their own secrets and work with others to conjure diverse elements that circumvent the laws of the world. The worlds of the Pact threaten to overwhelm the wizards and their games. As stories emerge, the time for the wizards to make the ultimate decisions about their futures draws near.”

So if you’re a fan who has been hoping to see this get a full release, or if you’re someone enchanted by the idea of a game where everyone’s kind of a bunch of GMs of their own litlte worlds, then you’ll want to check this out.
There’s a Kickstarter planned for Summer 2026, so look forward to getting to know more about the game as we get closer to the launch date.
I bet it turns out the real Seven-Part Pact is the friends we made along the way!
