Let’s take a look at all the cool Warhammer: The Old World events that are going down at Adepticon 2026.

This week will see one of the biggest gaming events in North American take place: Adepticon. Now sadly it doesn’t seem like there is going to be any Old World at the GW preview there. However that doesn’t mean at all that there won’t be any Old World at the event. Indeed this years Adepticon 2026 is set to be the biggest Old World event in North America, with four awesome days of gaming going down. Now I’ll be there as one of the Judges so expect a lot of post event coverage and dissection, but I figured we could take a look now at what events are happening and what to watch.

Thursday – The Odd Sizes

Thursday features a couple of odd sized events to get things kicked off. There is a 3-round 1,ooo point tournament and a 3-round 3,000 point event. These are both following the Adepticon FAQ. This FAQ and the Comp for each event was designed to tamp down some of the most abusive things and lead to a more fun event for all players, not just the most competitive. These are both fun events and a chance to play armies you don’t normally get to use. We won’t have final number until the day of but both are expected to see about 20-30 plays battle it out.

Double Trouble

Friday see the Doubles event take place. In this event teams of two players each field 1000 point lists and battle it out with other teams. Doubles events are super fun and extra chill with players getting to mess around with friends and use crazy combos. This is the only event I’m actually playing in. I’m teaming up with a High Elf friend to ride around on horses and charge things. If you haven’t done a doubles event I highly recommend them as they are super fun. Indeed this is the most popular Old World event at Adepticon with over 50 teams signed up. That actually puts it in the running for the largest ToW we’ve ever had in North America with as we may see over 100 players.

The Generals Challenge

Friday also sees the start of a very unique event, the General’s Challenge. This event works as follows:

“Sixteen players will select one of 18 pre-defined 1,750-point armies and be paired with an opponent. From game two on is a bracket-driven tournament. Are you the best general? Fifteen others will be ready to challenge you! Armies, dice, measuring tapes, templates, magic cards, and lists will be provided. “

So basically all the armies are built and provided for you, making this a very easy event to get into, but not to win. The Adepticon team has built an army for every faction in the game. Each army is meant to represent the faction in some way. These army aren’t crazy power gaming armies, they are pretty run of the mill armies that are meant to all be somewhat balanced. You can find the armies here. This is really meant to be a test of you as a player, not just an army builder and its always a great chance to use a different army, or units then you are used to playing with. Really a cool event.

The Championship

Saturday and Sunday of course is reserved for the main event, the 2000 points Adepticon Old World Championship. This is the classic 5-round, 2000 points singles GT were players battle it out to see who is best. You can find all the rules for it here and in the FAQ. I’ll be judging this event and watching to see what some of the best US players are up to at it. The event has over 80 player signed up and again, depending on final numbers, could be the biggest singles event we’ve seen in North America. It’s not that the winner will be the best US player, but they are going to be a force to be reckoned with. It should be a really fun event. So look forward to some recaps and news about these two days of gaming.

The Ladder Campaign

Lastly Sunday see the Ladder Campaign take place. This is other “different” event. For it players bring 3 lists, a 500 pts, a 1000 pts and a 1500 pts list. Over three round they will use each in acceding order slowly fielding larger armies. This is a really fun way to get to play several sized games and just get in a variety of play in a single day. On top of that it’s fairly quick. You don’t normally get to play 3 rounds on a Sunday. However with this event you do.

Anyway, those are all the awesome event’s happening this year. I’ll be judging Thursday and Saturday-Sunday and playing on Friday. So stop by and say hi!

Abe is that rare thing, an Austin local born and raised here. Though he keeps on moving around, DC, Japan, ETC., he always seems to find his way back eventually. Abe has decades of experience with a wide range of tabletop and RPG games, from historicals, to Star Wars to D&D and 40K. He has been contributing to BOLS since almost the start, back when he worked at and then owned a local gaming store. He used to be big into the competitive Warhammer tournament scene but age has mellowed him and he now appreciates a good casual match. He currently covers Warhammer: The Old World, as well as all things Star Wars, with occasional dabbling in other topics. Abe mourned over loss of WFB for its entire hiatus, but has been reborn like a gaming phoenix with Warhammer: The Old World.
