Games Workshop is showcasing the new rules for two of the Armies of Renown for the Daughters of Khaine in Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
The Daughters of Khaine are about to get a new Battletome and that means lots of new rules to try out. In particular, we’ve got a pair of new Armies of Renown to showcase today. These pair perfectly with the new Battle Trait that was also showcased earlier this week.
So let’s see what the Champions of the Arena and the Zainthar Kai army can do!
We’ve seen the new battle traits for the Daughters of Khaine, and how they gain the blessings of the Murder God with blood rituals. Now, we’re taking a look at their two new themed Armies of Renown.
Daughters of Khaine – Champions of the Arena
First up we’re looking at the Champions of the Arena. This is an army that is made up of the gladiatorial units within the army. Think
High Gladiatrixes, Hag Queens, Slaughter Queens, Blood Hags, Sisters of Slaughter, and Witch Aelves as the main options here.
By restricting your options you gain other benefits however. In this case you get the Arena of Slaughter rules to help out. And just like the battle traits, these stack.
These can lead to some silly combos of buffs applying and I think that’s entirely the point. You can also nominate a hero to become a Hero of the Killing Games which provides an additional enhancement to make them more effective killers. But they do have to be in combat with an enemy hero.
And, if by some miracle of the dice, your hero happens to fall you can always call them back through a Frenzied Restoration thanks to the Shrine of Dark Tribute!
Honestly, this is kind of scary. Just when your opponent thinks they are free from your hero tearing into their lines they come back. Yikes.
Daughters of Khaine – Zainthar Kai
If you’re going to play a Daughters of Khaine army there’s a good chance that at some point you’re going to want to play with Morathi. And why wouldn’t you?! She’s kind of an overall beat stick and she really empowers the rest of the army around her, too. That’s where the Zainthar Kai Army of Renown really shines.
The army can include Melusai Ironscales, Blood Sisters, Blood Stalkers, Khinerai Heartrenders, Khinerai Lifetakers, Bloodwrack Medusae, and Bloodwrack Shrines, but MUST be led by Morathi-Khaine and the Shadow Queen.
Honestly, that’s a great trade off. If you’re a fan of the Snake-ladies, then this army is already for you. Plus, they hit HARD. While Morathi is in charge she also gets to use her Dark Majesty to bully other units.
Basically, if you opponent’s non-hero units attack her and don’t roll a 5 or 6, they just miss. That’s going to give her a big boost to survivability (not that she really needed one). Still, she’s kind of the lynchpin to the army so having her around for longer is just better for DoK players.
From there, Morathi also boosts the army through their Cursed Heritage.
Turns out making those snakes bleed can backfire in the form of D3 Mortal wounds. Or really, just being in combat with them can be bad. Who would have thought that?! Oh right…everyone.
And, if for some reason, you want to keep your heroes alive longer there is also a few other goodies you have access to. Like the Amulet of the Bladed Queen:
See, Morathi looks out for her own. I’m sure these gifts are on the up-and-up. She’s definitely not plotting behind anyone’s back.
The new Armies of Renown are coming soon for the Daughters of Khaine. And that means soon to your tabletop!
