The first of a whole new trilogy of Dragonlance novels is out for preorder. Check out War Wizard and see the power of friendship AND magic.
Dragonlance prepares a whole new trilogy of books. After much waiting, a new era is about to come to Dragonlance, with a new trilogy all about the power of friendship. And magic. Focusing on the plight of a young boy who studies magic in knightly Solamnia (famously mistrustful of magic) and his friendship with a knight who would one day become legend, we get a whole new look at how one relationship can change the course of the world. You can read it for yourself in War Wizard, coming this August from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.
War Wizard – Coming In August From The Creators Of Dragonlance
War Wizard takes place before the War of the Lance. Before the Queen of Darkness was beaten – it focuses on the story of two characters that fans of Dragonlance will know well: the knight Huma, better known as Huma Dragonbane, and his longtime friend, Magius. Who were they before the Wars of the Dragons?
Before they took on the Queen of Darkness, before Magius was captured and tortured, before he war all three robes of the Orders of High Sorcery, Magius was a boy in Solamnia. And Huma was his friend. This is the story explored in the upcoming trilogy, starting with War Wizard.
“Vinus Solamnus wrote: The practice of magic is secretive, inherently deceitful, and dishonorable. Those who practice magic are forbidden to enter the knighthood, nor should they be connected to the knighthood in any way.
The boy with a rare gift for magic was born in Solamnia, a nation that despised and distrusted mages. His father tried to beat the magic out of him. The knights threatened him with imprisonment and exile. He endured tragedy and heartbreak. Yet he persisted with his magic, for the sake of the magic.
One friend stood by him when others persecuted him, a young man who was studying for the knighthood. No one could understand this unlikely friendship.
It seems like Dragonlance is spinning back up in earnest. Perhaps one day we’ll get to see even more stories explored in that world. And while Joe Manganiello’s live-action bid to bring the world to life has been stymied for now, the future is a big place. Maybe Baldur’s Gate will pave the way for other D&D stories to come to the small screen.
At any rate, look for War Wizard in August wherever you get your books.
Huma and Magius, black cat and golden retriever energy!
