The Baldur’s Gate TV show, first revealed in February, will not begin production until showrunner Craig Mazin finishes The Last of Us.
The Last of Us, also based on a popular video game is a post-apocalyptic zombie-adjacent drama, and its third season was announced in April 2025. This third season is expected to be the final season of the show.
In an interview with the Radio Times, HBO boss Casey Bloys said of Mazin “Obviously, he’s deep into season 3 of The Last of Us – but Baldur’s Gate was something he brought to us. He’s very passionate about it, and he’s thinking about it, and we’ve talked about it, but he’s going to focus on The Last of Us, and then come back to [Baldur’s Gate] when he’s got more time.”
Filming for The Last of Us’ final season began very recently (in March 2026) and the show will air in 2027.
Craig Mazin will serve as showrunner for the Baldur’s Gate show, and ex-WotC staffer Chris Perkins will act as a consultant. Larian Studios–which made the video game–is not involved at this time.
The show will be a sequel to the video game, rather than an adaption of it, and will feature new characters alongside those from the game.
