Monte Cook Games’ Cypher System is about to get its first megadungeon, the sci-fi and/or fantasy drenched Jewel in the Sky.
Do you like megadungeons? What about science fiction and fantasy that blur the line between the two? Well then you might be into Monte Cook Games’ latest crowdfunding project, the first-ever megadungeon built for the Cypher System RPG from the ground up. Jewel in the Sky is a megadungeon that lives in the collision between magic and technology.
At its heart, an eight-mile long floating island in the sky, upon which rests a base once built by visitors from beyond the stars. Over the centuries, magic has influenced the advanced technology and now it’s got a life of it’s own. A life you can discover by delving through its forgotten depths.
Jewel In The Sky – Now On BackerKit
MCG pitches the Jewel in the Sky megadungeon as something that can fit into any slice of a campaign. You coudl run it as a traditional fantasy dungeon crawl, have it floating upon a forgotten world in a sci-fi campaign. It could even come crashing through reality if you decide the veil between worlds gets a little thin in your ‘investigate paranormal mysteries but on Earth’.
All this is because the Cypher System is designed to run across many systems. But from the campaign description, it sounds like Jewel in the Sky is designed to be run from either a fantasy perspective, of “adventurers discovering a ‘weirdly advanced’ dungeon” or from a sci-fi perspective, of returning to reclaim a lost base, only to have it changed by the strange energies of the planet it’s situated upon.
Either way, it presents itself as a challenging megadungeon full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing. Unless you’re the GM, in which case you’ll know everything and get to decide for yourself which of the twists and turns you like and want to run with for your party.
