We visited Wyvern’s Tale, a game store focusing on non-TCG categories in Asheville, North Carolina, on Friday, April 17. The location was on a well-traveled street and had parking. Based on our short visit to the city in Western North Carolina, Asheville has a thriving gaming scene despite the city’s relatively small size (less than 100,000 people in the city itself), featuring at least three game stores and a board game café.
Wyvern’s Tale was founded in 2012, and Kent Edwards is the primary owner. The business model was an interesting one, focusing on RPGs, miniatures, and board games, with a very small selection of TCGs. The only TCG the store supports with organized play is Star Wars Unlimited.
