Mantic Games has released the new Detachment rules for Halo: Flashpoint. Get your ODST and Jiralhanae custom Fireteams ready!

There’s not always a Spartan around to drop in and save the day. Sometimes you’ve just got to rely on the troopers of the ODST Corps! Now you can do that thanks to the Detachment rules out now from Mantic Games.

We also get a little bit about the creation of these rules and what sparked the idea of them in the first place.

It  all started in one of our planning meetings. We were discussing all the cool new things we wanted to bring to Halo Flashpoint, and at some point, Ronnie posed the question: what if I want to play with ODST’s on their own as a faction? Nobody would want to do that, surely?

That question set things in motion, and one thing became apparent very quickly to myself and the Rules Committee – by focusing on a narrower selection of units, it would allow us to increase the power of those units, knowing that you cannot supplement them with Spartans or Sangheili Mercenaries. Essentially, this shift in the internal balance dynamics of the factions would open up some cool new design space for us to play in.

Halo: Flashpoint Detachments

These rules are available inside the Halo: Flashpoint Index. They are also available as a digital download/PDF from Mantic Games. I’m really glad see that these forces became an option in their own right. I also like how it opened up the options for these “sub-factions” and allowed Mantic to play around with their rules in this way. These upgrades are a neat way to keep the game feeling fresh with the same models and they can really change things up for the better.

These Detachments have been tested a bunch to help with their incorporation and balance. I think players are going to enjoy these new ways to bust out their old toys! So give it a go.

‘Detachments’ gives players the ability to command either the new ODST Corps or Jiralhanae Hunting Party lists, using points values to build a new custom Fireteam.

To field these new lists you will require the corresponding UNSC or  Banished miniatures and cards, available on the webstore.
