Osprey Games announced that Bloombury Publishing, owners Osprey Publishing, has put their board and card game lines up for sale. The announcement came via their Blue Sky social media account.
Osprey Publishing established their board and card game division in 2014 (see “New Osprey Publishing Game Division“). The division produced several solid Eurogames over the last decade, including the Undaunted series of games (see “‘Undaunted 2200: Callisto’“), War Story: Occupied France (see “‘War Story: Occupied France’“), and various Martin Wallace designs (see ” ‘Wildlands’ (Board Game)“). In 2022, their Cryptid game earned Osprey a Kennerspiel des Jahres nomination (see “2022 Spiel des Jahres Nominations“).
The main driver behind the Bloombury’s decision to sell their board and card game lines was to refocus their Osprey unit back on its core business, which is book publishing. Osprey has been a leading publisher of military history books since their Men-at-Arms series first arrived in bookstores in 1971. Military history books, wargames, and TTRPGs have been Osprey’s bread-and-butter for decades, and now, they are returning their full focus to those lines.
While Osprey goes through a transitional period, Bloombury will look for a new home for their board and card game lines. Osprey will continue to release, sell and license upcoming games that are on their schedule of releases. However, they will not be commissioning any new board and card games.
