It’s not every day that Paizo tells players to go to hell, but here we are. Check out the new Hell’s Destiny Player’s Guide and brace yourself.
Part two of the Hellfire Crisis is nearly upon Golarion. After players have dealt with the infernal politics and the uprising against Cheliax in the Hellbreakers adventure path, the next leg of the story, Hell’s Destiny, follows another part of the broader, broiling, brouhaha. And in the new Hell’s Destiny Player’s Guide, you’ll find out exactly how to get ready to go to hell. Or at least another part of Cheliax.

If you are, somehow, unfamiliar with a Pathfinder “Player’s Guide” the concept is pretty simple. These are free PDFs that will prepare your character to fit right into the unfolding story. I like ’em, because they give you interesting narrative hooks to play with, without having to spoil anything.
They’re not like game-breaking or game-necessary, but they give you some good ingredients to play with. Especially since you get new backgrounds, lore, and of course, a refresher on the subsystems you’ll need to play around with. When was the last time you read up on Victory Points and Troops?
“The Chelaxian port city Corentyn controls the narrow strait connecting the Inner Sea and Arcadian Ocean—a lucrative location, and Cheliax has always been on hand to demand its cut of the action. With the war reaching a taxing stalemate, Cheliax has extracted every silver piece it can from Corentyn’s coffers. Recent civil demonstrations against these measures provided Chelaxian officials the token justification needed to enact martial law and seize any neutral ships in the area.
Whether you’re an accomplished merchant, a disillusioned local, a freedom fighter from abroad, or a mercenary with a moral compass, you’re among the unlucky souls trapped in Corentyn by this latest crackdown. But importantly, it’s not the first time your life and livelihood have been on the line; the PCs begin this Adventure Path as 10th-level characters! Be ready to destabilize Cheliax from within—beginning with Corentyn, recruiting an eclectic coalition of battle-hardened allies and ultimately confronting Cheliax’s armies head-on.”
The six new backgrounds provided in the Hell’s Destiny Player’s Guide are extremely interesting. You might be an Anti-Thrune Saboteur, skilled in all manner of dirty tricks, as in the Dirty Tricks skill feat. Or maybe you’re a Defiant Noble, hoping to take advantage of the chaos to advance their own dynasty through their use of the Courtly Graces skill feat.
You get the idea. You can check out the new backgrounds, and get caught up on the lore of the war at the link below!
