A new Shadowrun campaign? In 2026? And it takes place in Detroit? I’m sold. Check out Shadowrun: Asphalt Jungles.
Shadowrun campaigns are a particularly strong flavor when it comes to pre-made campaigns. People either love ’em or hate ’em, and there is not much in the way of middle ground. Famously, some campaigns have changed the whole canon of the setting, just ask anyone who had to deal with the election and subsequent assassination of Dunkelzahn in their games.
And today, we have a new campaign from Catalyst Game Labs, Asphalt Jungles. This new campaign invites you to the shadowy corporate underworld of Detroit. And Detroit is famous for being a city that has helped inspire cyberpunk novels before. Something about corporate exploitation, leaving a dispossessed underclass or whatever. Especially since the new campaign picks up right after the latest “shadow war.”
Shadowrun: Asphalt Jungles
If you’re unfamiliar with Shadowrun’s various wars, there are outright corporate wars where they fight with their own private militaries including surprisingly well-outfitted battalions with mechanized infantry and tanks and everything. It’d be like if you found out that, say, Nestle, had its own private mechanized division.
Anyway. Shadow Wars are more covert. At least in terms of the “criminal underworld fighting but they try to keep it out of the public.” Only it’s not just gangs and organized crime families, it’s also cabals of mages, toxic spirits, illegal corporate operations, and so on.
In Asphalt Jungles, the story picks up in the wake of the Disian Shadow War. As you might imagine, in the aftermath of a war, there’s plenty of turmoil. And that means there’s opportunities for Shadowrunners, who are, by and large, about as mercenary as it gets.
“The effects of the Disian Shadow War created massive power vacuums on the Sixth World’s streets. No one escaped unscathed, from the largest syndicates to the lowliest street gangs. And nowhere is this being felt most than Motor City. As old factions battle for power and survival as new ones are born of shadows and violence, now is the time to establish who reigns in the urban jungles of steel and concrete. Those with the force of will and sheer guts will either forge their own destiny or end up as just another body going cold in the gutter. Which one are you?”
The book is available right now on DriveThruRPG in ebook form. I imagine you’ll have to check your FLGS to find it physically – but Shadowrun is enjoying a sort of new time in the sun thanks to the overall popularity of cyberpunk dystopias (probably because we’re living in one).
If you’re looking for a new campaign that also helps update the ongoing story of the Sixth World, you’ll want to check out Shadowrun: Asphalt Jungles.
See you in the shadows, chummer!
