Blades ’68 is doing great on BackerKit. It’s closing in on the half-million mark with three days left in its crowdfunding campaign. If you haven’t been following along, Blades ’68 is the revolutionary new expansion for John Harper’s Blades in the Dark, which updates the setting of Doskvol 100 years, and has a dystopian bent that perfectly captures the revolutionary spirit of the 60s. Play as saboteurs, radicals, and robots – check it out below!

Blades ’68 – Final Three Days On BackerKit

Blades ’68 is, as the creators put it, all about “unruly escapades in a dystopian retro-future.” You can get a real feel for it in the artwork. But it’s in the mechanics as well. It’s not just your typical do crimes for the sake of crimes. The new expansion is packed full of new playbooks and revolutionary crews, fresh factions, and daring heists. It’s the Blades paradigm, turned on its side, all wrapped up in a 450-page expansion from the subversive mind of Tim Denee, whom you might recognize from Deathmatch Island.

Personally, I’m excited for this one. I love Blades in the Dark, and I love espionage – and this setting mashes the two together. It feels like Tim Denee is making this for me, even though I know it’s found an audience of more than five thousand enthusiastic fans. And that’s just for the crowdfunding campaign.

It’s the kind of niche you get right away. Lots of cool suits. Mod aesthetics. Plus the looming spectre of plasmic fusion sort of speeding up the problems of technology as well as the supernatural problems of the world.

On top of that, it’s an expansion, which means a ton of new rules. You’ll find a new set of “Special Procedures” for running the game, including new rules for Harm and Resistance, a new Trouble Engine to help track growing developments and unrest in your Crew’s district, and more options for character emerging through mechanics.

And there’s still time to get in on some of the absolutely sweet Backer rewards as part of the crowdfunding campaign. If you love this kind of thing, you might want to go for the “Hull Containment Unit” level, which comes with the Limited Edition version of Blades ’68, as well as a Trouble Deck, Score Pad, a physical copy of the City Map, the Faction Deck, 32-page Player Gazette, PDF version of Blades ’68, and a DriveThruRPG coupon code for the Print on Demand version.

Either way, if you want in on this, now’s your chance!
