Mantic has a brand new Kickstarter today for DreadBall All-Stars! You can get in on the action and help bring this one to the tabletop.

So I’m writing this before the Kickstarter has launched but I have a strong suspicion that this is really less of a traditional Kickstarter and more of a “pre-order.” And as a reminder Kickstarters are NOT considered pre-orders and they come with risks. That said, let’s be real here: based on what Mantic is showing off they’ve already got everything done. They aren’t a fly-by-night company and they’ve got the infrastructure in place to deliver on this product. So I do wonder why they’d want to do a Kickstarter instead of just putting this out in the retail chain. If I had to guess I’d say it’s mostly to gauge interest and to get some capital flowing. But that’s another topic.

The point is that DreadBall All-Stars is launching today! And you can get in on that sweet, sweet Kickstarter action.

DreadBall All-Stars: The Ultimate Sci-Fi Sports Game

Now, we already covered what Dreadball All-Stars is and what it’s based on. The short version is that this is a game designed by Jervis Johnson, Alessio Cavatore, and artist Stefan Kopiniski. It’s a board game that’s set in the same Dreadball Universe from Mantic Games and it’s taking the action of the previous version of Dreadball and streamlined the process and rules. I’d think of like a more distilled version but with more of a focus on getting players into the action as fast as possible.

The miniatures are all pre-assembled and all the players in the game come with cards for quick reference. Those cards come with all the special rules and stats to use them on the Dreadball Court.

This is a different game though. It’s a stand-alone and doesn’t require any previous DreadBall experience. Although it might not hurt to have played previous versions. But what is DreadBall All-Stars then? Well, Jervis Johnson described it as closer to “a full-contact version of NBA Basketball.” There’s a lot more back and forth and a lot more action happening. Oh and violence. Lots of chances to unleash some violence on the opposing team.

Anyhow here’s quick breakdown of what you can expect within the Kickstarter Campaign:

I would also encourage you to check out the different boards that are coming with the game. There’s a lot more ways to setup and enjoy DreadBall All-Stars including that crazy sounding Battle Royale Mode for 3-6 players!

Again, the Kickstarter is going live today. In fact, by the time this article goes live the Kickstarter should have also launched. So get over there and check it out! Go get your action-packed Sci-Fi Sports on!
