Paizo just put out the Spring Errata for Pathfinder 2E. There’s a lot of attention paid to Player Core 2, with a few other big updates.
Yesterday D&D released its Winter Community Survey. Today, Paizo puts out the Spring Errata. Seems like one company is ahead of the other – at least seasonally. And in terms of the number of sourcebooks released for the new edition. But more sourcebooks means more errata, and well, the Spring Errata tackles the Player Core 2, as well as a few other wrinkles of rules. Let’s take a look!
Pathfinder’s Spring Errata
Before we dive in, one thing to mention about Pathfinder’s recent errata. Before this latest batch, the team was hard at work tackling books that were headed for a reprint. So books like the Pathfinder Player Core, GM Core, and Guns & Gears (Remastered) were cleaned up. There are a few minor changes to these bookks.
Notably, the Player Core deals with updates to the Druid and Ranger Mature Animal Companion feats, allowing for more types of movement. As well, you’ll find a revised Stunned Condition and updated Take Cover. The GM Core was mostly just cleaning, and G&G Remastered looked at changes to the Inventor, with a major revamp of the Firework Technician Archetype.
But in the Spring Errata themselves? One book was the heart of it all. And that’s the Player Core 2. Paizo has helpfully provided a list of highlights from the new FAQs released today:
- Oracles’ spell repertoire text was fixed to match the table, as well as an upgrade to weapon trance.
- Qi spell feats can now be taken multiple times as intended.
- Swashbuckler multiclass now has a use for panache in their dedication feat.
- Mature animal companion feats were upgraded to allow more movement types, like their Player Core counterparts.
- Alchemists had a large number of changes to research field abilities and feats, primarily to improve their action economy and integration between different abilities. Mutagenist field vials, the toxicologist field benefit, Revivifying Mutagen, Healing Bomb, Combine Elixirs, Sticky Bomb, Double Poison, and Eternal Elixir all saw changes.
- Draconic sorcerers now have the details on how to update focus spells when using the Specific Draconic Exemplars option.
The other big thing in this batch of updates is a major change to the way Weakness, Resistance, and Immunities all work. It’s quite a lot, so here’s what the dev team has to say:
“Under the revised rules, each weakness and resistance can trigger only once during an effect (such as a single Strike or spell). A creature with weaknesses to both a damage type and special material can have them both activated at the same time. In a pretty substantial change from both the original rules and our interim guidance on the subject, resistance to all damage now applies only once as well. We also cover what happens when multiple resistances could apply to the same damage, as often happens when a character has both resistance to one type of damage and resistance to all damage. You can find some details on the reason for these changes in the erratum.”
This is an ongoing change in conversation with the community. The latest weakness/resistance revision comes after significant negative feedback from the commmunity – so you can tell that Pathfinder is listening to its players. You might then want to investigate and leave some feedback of your own.
