Games Workshop is continuing with the Grotmas Calendar goodies. Today we’ve got the Chaos Space Marines with a new Detachment!
The Chaos Space Marines have a brand new (and slightly terror-inducing) detachment. Say hello to the Nightmare Hunt! Their enemies will not be resting peacefully…
“This detachment focuses on Chaos Space Marines that revel in shock assaults and sowing discord and dread, like the fearsome Night Lords. Enemy units within 12” of Chaos Space Marine units have to take Battle-shock tests in the Command phase if they are under Starting Strength rather than Half Strength, with an additional -1 penalty to that test. This is especially handy because Chaos Space Marines that then attack those Battle-shocked units get +1 To Wound, while enemy Battle-shocked units get a -1 penalty To Hit.”

Chaos Space Marines Nightmare Hunt
The big thing about this detachment is the Terror Made Manifest detachment rule. This rule really leans on battleshock and half-strength units by punishing them even more with a bonus to be hit and a debuff to hit back. And if that unit is battleshocked, they also get another +1 to be wounded. Ouch. Should have called this one “blood in the water!”
This one really does feel like the Night Lords for sure — and that makes sense. On top of that, there’s plenty of enhancements that you can see above as well. Watch out for that Greyveil Hex. Or rather keep that one in mind because it prevents the Chaos Lord and the unit they are with from being targeted by an attack outside of 18″ which seems pretty good.
For Stratagems, once again these are designed to help the Nightmare Hunt keep beating up those half-strength and battle-shocked units. There’s also some more ways to generate battle-shock tests, too. But I do want to call out Relentless Terror because it’s universally useful as it’s a way to Fall Back and shoot/charge in the same turn. Those types of things are just flat out strong when used correctly.
Go try out the Nightmare Hunt today! You could say it’s kind of a Nightmare Before Christmas…
