In a new update about what’s in store for Space Marine 2, Focus Entertainment addressed community concerns about the Chapter Voice Pack DLC.
It just goes to show that listening to your community can actually be good. In a new update about the future of Space Marine 2, Focus Entertainment devs revealed a few things that lie in store for the upcoming Patch 13, including a revamped Siege Mode, as well as a reworked difficulty curve. But to the relief of the community, the devs also revealed some big news about the Chapter Voice Pack DLC – notably that it was being made freely available to all, with refunds in the works for those who purchased it.
Chapter Voice Pack DLC To Be Free
If you weren’t aware of some of the concerns surrounding the DLC, game director Dmitri Girgorenko addresses it in an apology/informative statement, which you can read below. But the crux of the matter is, those who purchased the Chapter Voice Pack DLC weren’t really experiencing the character of their chosen chapter coming through at the frequency one might expect.
As it turns out, the team at Focus is aware that they missed the mark with this one. But hopefully future updates will more clearly communicate what lies in store.
Here’s Grigorenko’s statement:
“We heard your feedback regarding the Chapter Voice Pack DLC and wanted to address it. It’s obvious this DLC has failed to meet your expectations and we are sorry about that. Delivering quality content – free or not – is a priority for us. Let me explain a little more about this DLC, and why we decided to make it free from now on:
The voice pack was originally designed to include what we call “battle chatter”: lines that react to combat situations and are not tied to specific missions. Each character in the voice pack got 450+ lines per 7 languages. However, it does not cover the large amount of scripted, level-specific dialogue found in Operations, which represent roughly 1500 lines for each operation.
We understand that many of you expected your chosen Chapter’s voice to be more complete. That’s on us, we didn’t set the right expectations, and the result feels incomplete. Many production constraints, such as localization, voice actors availability and necessity to keep updating voice packs when adding new Operations, forced us to make the voice pack as it stands currently, and the same constraints are not allowing us to “expand” the voice pack by adding the missing lines.
AdvertisementLooking ahead, we’ll be making improvements to the current implementation. We are currently working on an option to disable replacement of missing level specific VOs by Ultramarine characters, and we’ll also expand the voice pack to PvP. We still believe that expanding customization, whether it’s how your Space Marine looks or sounds, is important for the game’s fantasy.
If you have purchased the DLC, depending on what platform you found it on, you’ll receive a refund either to your Steam Wallet or the payment method you used via the Xbox or PS5 store or what have you. Your refunds will be processed in the next few weeks, and the DLC will be added to the game for all users. If you downloaded it on PS5 you’ll have to redownload it once the free version is available, but everyone else should have it directly once it’s ready.
Now to wait for Patch 13, with Siege Mode and Iron Warriors!
Space Marine 2 Devs stay looking out for their players!
