Aethon Books acquired a majority stake in Panda Cult Games, the company announced.
Aethon Books is a digital-first book publisher that is known for publishing series such as He Who Fights with Monsters, The Primal Hunter, Defiance of the Fall, Drop Trooper, Grimm’s War, and more. Their acquisition of Panda Cult Games, who released the Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels and Ghostbusters x Men in Black: Ecto-Terrestrial Invasion (see “Ghostbusters, Men in Black Together“) board games, represents the Aethon’s first steps into entering the games publishing space.
“Once I had a chance to play Panda Cult’s Dungeon Duels, I was sold,” said Aethon CEO, Rhett Bruno. “They have built some brilliant games, and fans will be excited to see what they’re building around some of Aethon’s best-selling stories.”
The first project Aethon and Panda Cult have on deck together is to adapt The Path of Ascension into a game. The Path of Ascension is a LitRPG with Xianxia elements that is about character named Matt, orphaned by monsters because of his “Tier 1” Talent, who is adopted by a powerful pair of allies. Together, the adventurers set off on a journey that will lead them towards legendary power levels and vengeance. This series has logged millions of eBook and audiobook sales as well as millions of views as a web-serial.
