Free League Workshop announced Fomoria an upcoming new folk horror RPG coming from an award-winning pair of designers.
Next week, Free League will be bringing you a new “folk horror” tabletop RPG in partnership with award-winning creators Tania Herrerro of Crown of Salt and Menagerie of Unbearable Things fame, and Johan Nohr, co-creator of MORK BORG. Which is an exciting combo of designers for anything that has any kind of “horror” in it. Here’s what we know.
Fomoria RPG – Coming Soon From Free League Workshop
First and foremost, this is a release under Free League’s ‘Workshop’ label, which is the branch responsible for externally developed games. That’s how MORK BORG is over there in the first place, I do believe. But if you’re familiar with the dark aesthetics of either, you can get a good idea of what to expect.
The premise is absolutely fantastic. In Fomoria, you live inside a subterranean world, where things like the sun and stars are myths and legend. Instead you navigate a network of tunnels and caves where monsters and worse await.
You know, classic dark fantasy stuff. And don’t worry, there are plenty of opportunities for you to play as a subterranean weirdo, as the RPG offers a “world built of monsters and bones” from the ground up, including in the design of PC options.
“Fomoria is a dark, weird, and inhospitable subterranean world where the Sun is a myth and the ‘False Stars’ of the earth’s roof offer the only light. Powered by a modified MORK BORG engine, players take on the role of the Folk – children of the lost Surface – navigating a living, breathing labyrinth of shifting tunnels known as the Strata.”
Naturally this is going to Kickstarter first. And very soon, in fact. The campaign is set to launch April 7th, although right now you can check out a Quickstart set of rules that will give prospective backers a taste of what to expect. You’ll find 8 pre-generated characters, a basic rules pamphlet, and an introductory adventure titled Spawn of the Hungering One.
The Quickstart and more info about the upcoming game are both on the Kickstarter pre-launch page, which you’ll find linked below.
